A Rural Journal: {It's All About Purple}

Mary Texture by Kim Klassen

No, you are not at the wrong blog --although Debbie at It's All About Purple may have a different viewpoint on my stealing her thunder.

Sorry Deb -- I needed a catchy purple phrase and yours sounded good to me today.

Seriously, Debbie is a sweet lady, a good friend and possesses a phenomenal positive attitude. (Alas, we've never actually met in person, but we kid each other like we are old friends. She and I are cool like that.)

Do you have a special blog connection that makes you feel like you've know that person for a long time? Why do you think that is?

  2. Fabulous application of texture and borrowing titles is perfectly reasonable - plus Debbie does seem like a cool kinda gal so I'm sure she won't mind (just wash before returning...[wink wink]). I completely relate to blog kinship - it is what makes this anonymous cyber world so personal.

  4. Stunning photo and I love the way the texture you used just adds to it. Hmmm, blogger friend I feel especially connected to...how many can I list?

  7. You pulled me in with,
    all about purple . . .
    brilliant photo . . .
    and I left with thoughts of . . .
    "blogging friend",
never met, known for ever and my thought,
where do I begin to tell you or anyone what I found a few years ago.

    and I feel stopped . . .
no doubt we may each be HERE
for various reasons yet each of us have met
    friend
    friendship
    kinship
    more . . .

  8. Sweet texture on that beautiful purple mum. Now that the days are longer, I'm missing colors more and more. Can't wait until spring!

Oddly enough, with all the internet connections I've made, there are only 2 women and 1 man I feel completely comfortable with. We're about the same age which gives us the advantage of shared memories of world events. We don't have to explain context making communication flow easily. They're all nutjobs, too.

  9. There are a few bloggers that I kid around with. BLogging is awesome! Hope to meet some of the ladies in person one day before blogging becomes passé' and we all go away. Won't that be sad.

  10. Beautiful flower! I have met so many wonderful people through blogging. I have to say, my goat sisters are the ones I am most connected to.

  12. Now you have inspired me, yet again, to go to Trader Joe's for flowers, take some photos, and practice with textures. I hope I have the patience with Photoshop. If not, you may hear me cursing all the way from California.

  13. I have to say that I love purple - the color and her blog.

  14. WoW nancy, i'm still rubbing my eye's to be sure i am reading this right, (and because i just got up.....what!!).

i adore what you said about me, none of its true, but i still LOVE that you said it. you have been such an awesome friend to little ole' me. whenever you leave me a comment i think, oh that's "my rock star blogger friend" because that's what you are to me, a rock star. you are a friend who "gets me" and "personally" answers all my silly emails. sometimes we curse a lil, mostly we are soft and compansionate and you never listen to me about the look of your blog. i do however love this look so i am sure there are changes in the future. hehe

now we need to talk about you stealing my name.......any time you want, the image is GORGEOUS!!

thanks nancy, you made me feel super special today and it felt great!! xo

  17. The flower is gorgeous and so is your processing.

Early on I made a blogger friend who shares so many of my interests that it's like we have known each other forever. We swap surprises via mail and sometimes chat on the phone . Someday we may be lucky enough to meet in person.

  19. Love the image!

Several years ago, when I was blogging about books, I had an opportunity to meet 5 other bloggers. It was lots of fun. I still keep in contact with some of them, mostly through FaceBook, but exchange letters with one, have followed the adventures of another who has gone from dreaming about writing to having a book published. Never would have happened if it weren't for blogging.

you might be a little bit rougher around the edges, but you're still a gemstone, too. ;)

  29. Nancy, it's gorgeous! It's been awhile since I've participated in TT and actually been to your blog. I've enjoyed your photos. I have someone on Facebook, that I have that type of connection with as you spoke about in your post.

    Thanks for sharing.

  30. I place a voice on a few I read, and it is fun to finally hear their voice to compare. One that I have read from the start put a video up and I laughed at the nasal eastern accent with a high pitched voice I didn't visualize before.

  31. I know what you mean. I have that kind of connection with Dolly, blogger of The Hibiscus House and Dolly is Cooking blogs. We like the exact same things is: lifestyle, design, stories, and food. We can even complete eachothers sentences it seems. I wish we lived closer (we are on opposite coasts); but wherever I go, I always have her in my heart. Some friendships are bigger than space and time I guess. Awesome photograph, as usual. Have a great week.

I am heading to the International Ag Show in Tulare, California in the morning. It's supposed to be the biggest such show in the world... We will see. Lol. I am hoping to make a connection for a jersey cow there.

  32. Hi Nancy, I love the photo ... so dreamy, the texture and the colors!I have a few blog friends, whom I feel connected in a special way - I think it has to do with sharing the same interests {Great minds think alike :) }, having a likehood or completely different circumstances in life ... and following one another both in the good and less good days.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yah, you cannot help but form special friendships with people you "talk" to nearly every day.
It's (as Martha used to say) a "good thing".

    ReplyDelete
  34. Very pretty purple, it's been a little lavender by me in the fresh flowers, and my pink roses dried to an almost purple!

    ReplyDelete
  35. This is a lovely shade of purple (which can be tricky to photograph) and a wonderful crop.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I also love the colour - absolutely gorgeous! And yes, I do have a special connection to some of my blogging friends, even when I'm not online so often these days :-)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Oh I love this..... Debbie is cool like that, Tex said it perfectly about both of you. I love all my blogger friends and wish we could all get in a hotel or a ranch and meet for a week with room service of course. We would certainly all have something to talk about and I am sure there would be lots of hugs. Blogger world ROCKS. Beautiful "It's all about purple shot":)Hugs B

  38. Purple - my favorite of all colors -- buttttttttt it has to be a soften purple just like how you are showing this image.. I would hang this in my grand daughter's room in a very large print - yes, indeed! And yes, I've made some really sweet friends in the blogging world that seems I've meant before and I love it..

  40. This is such a beautiful image, Nancy! I love purple, anyway. As for special blogger connections....I think at this time of my life, my best "connections" are with my blogger friends.

    ReplyDelete
  41. What a lovely shot! Wonderfully composed and processed. I feel close to many of my "bloggy" friends even though we live miles apart and have never met face to face. There are a few I know I'd be close friends with if we lived closer.

  47. Lovely shot and beautiful processing Nancy.

  48. With all the responses I see here, your blog friend account is overflowing. And you know exactly where I am coming from...I suspect that, if I had the opportunity and was able to meet so many of my friend bloggers, it would be as if we had known eachother for years. This medium far surpasses other formats as far as the 'friend thing' goes. Bloggers tend to post ideas with substance and readers tend to actually pay attention, care, and think about what they've read. As Martha would say, it's a good thing. And love the purple!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. This is beautiful - it makes me want to drop everything and learn how to add textures! Yes, I feel so blessed to have made many blog and photographer friends who I feel I've known forever even though we've never met in person. The world feels so much smaller!

    ReplyDelete
  50. It's interesting how relationships are forged in this blogging world. We "know" people sometimes through their art and sometimes through their words, and we begin to care about them. I even start wondering if someone doesn't post in awhile, and I check on them as I would on a "real" friend, except I have to use E-mail. Love the shadows and textures of your purple posey.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Beautiful shot. I just love that color.

  52. love this photo. and the texture.

    well done you!!:)

    xx~always.

  53. Indeed. My blogging friends like Nancy are very real to me. I've recieved 7 books to review, 4 invitations to go troutfishing in Montana, 2 stop bys to other states, and many kind words beyond measure. Also 3 friends who passed on (Rae, Leontine, and Flydragon)

  54. Beautiful shot and color. It made me smile, thanks. :)
My blogging friends are all special to me, but I do have a blogging friend that I have never met IRP, but it seems like we have known each other for years. We talk everyday, send each-other snail mail / presents, and we are getting to know each other better and better thanks to our photography collaboration projects. :)

  57. I adore purple! Lavender is one of my favorite flowers...I'm trying to affect a lavender/lilac theme in my main bathroom. I know what you mean about feeling like you are best friends with certain bloggers! I wish I could meet you all, and get to know you better, but the blogs open up a part of each of us that is very personal, and I love that! It's easy to come to really admire and feel close to someone here in bloggerland!
