A Rural Journal: {5 Facts Friday}

Another round of 5 facts from me...

1. I received a surprise package in the mail this week from my friend, Patti at A New Day Dawns. See, Patti read my post, There's No Tea In This Tea, and sent me... a fabulous assortment of herbal teas for me to try.  Will I become an herbal tea convert? If I do, you have Patti to blame thank.

Merci, Patti! You are so very thoughtful.

2. I'm spending time today getting our taxes in order to take to our tax prep man. Such an excruciating enjoyable process.

3. The weather here (we must talk about the weather, right?) has been windy. If you like wind, then you might consider moving to Nebraska. You will not be disappointed.

4. My reading tastes lately are all over the board. I'm finishing up An Amish Kitchen and will be moving on to the latest Ann Rule true crime offering. From Mennonites to murder. Why not.

5. I noticed Buck has developed another pannus spot on his left eye, unfortunately right over the pupil. I've started him back on steroid drops in an attempt to halt its progression. If you have a dog whose breed is susceptible to this condition, please be sure to check their eyes regularly.

If you are so inclined, post your own 5 facts, whenever, wherever -- and let us know in the comments so we can check them out.

  2. Good morning, Nancy! Yep, I do some of the herbal teas, not at all bad, sure beats that stuff people call coffee. Lots of windmills in Nebraska? Your reading choices - I agree, why not? Who in their right mind wants to get stuck in a rut?

  3. I love herbal tea....just as long as I can have a bit of caffeine in it. Poor Buck; I hope you can get this halted soon.

  11. Hey Nancy and yes I plan to share some facts about myself this year...I hope I don't live to regret it..:)
I hope all is well for you there in Nebraska and as far as weather and wind goes we have had our share here in upstate New York. This time next year I hope to be moved to Missouri so I will have some weather closer to the lovely weather you enjoy!
Hope you have a great weekend and much love to your furry friends!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I like most herbal teas especially with a heaping spoon of raw honey dumped in it, lol!

I just bought 'An Amish Kitchen' after you mentioned you were reading it. I'm a sucker for Amish fiction so I thought it would be nice for my collection.

Taxes... I don't even want to go there yet. sigh. A necessary evil but one that I will get to. eventually.

It's been 'kerazy' windy here as well. I can't stand it. I'll probably hope for 'kerazy' winds come this summer though when it's triple digits!

I hope the steroids help Buck.

  20. I have always been a big fan of Ann Rule - 25 years ago I was reading her book Small Sacrafices on the plane headed to our honeymoon!..lol.. I have the newest book on my nightstand.. the UNSOLVED story of the deaths at the Spreckles mansion - Shacknai residence. ... is heartbreaking and mindbogglingly unsolved. And I think there is some very weird coverup because I highly doubt what they claimed was the reason to close the case. You tell me what you think.

  21. Poor Buck! Hope all gets better! No wind here tday but expecting snow again tonight. Vaca day today but taking care of family so maybe I will have some time over the weekend to play. Love that photo! Herbal tea...depends on the brand/flavor. Happy weekend ahead!

  27. I'm learning to like herbal tea ... I'm more of an iced tea gal

    ReplyDelete

  29. I enjoyed reading your 5 facts. What a wonderful gift to receive! I like some herbal teas, but I'm usually looking for caffeine in my drinks. :-( Hope Buck's eye heals quickly.

  30. Oh Nebraska...makes me think of a certain song by Lady Gaga...a concert I was supposed to go to but she cancelled. I'm not bitter about it. No.
I'm sorry to hear about your dog. Ours at 6 socks. Jerk

I did our taxes yesterday, we are so poor we get everything we paid back! LOL!!
Thanks for the Party yesterday, it was fun visiting so many new blogs! :)

  33. Pannus, I think I learned something!! My dog may have that! He's only 3 years old but blind as a bat, the dr. said it was cataracts, but some days his eyes look crystal clear, so we're not sure. I'm wondering if it's Pannus. Can't wait to tell my husband, Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I hope the pannus clears up poor guy! You will love the tea I bet, herbal is wonderful and a little well, exotic! Love the facts!

    ReplyDelete
  35. My favorite herbal tea is Plantation Mint but it is caffeinated so I don't drink it in the evening. I think your book tastes are great! I read a variety too. Sometimes an Amish story followed by a Military Suspense...two different worlds :) Hope you have a great weekend and your doggie gets better.

  36. Hi Nancy,
As ALWAYS, I was inspired by your post. I wrote my first 5 Friday Facts post today. I'm not sure if you want the link here. So if not, just remove it. ~Blessings (http://thoughtsfromadaughteroftheking.blogspot.com/2013/02/a-week-in-review.html)

  37. I'm guilty of being an herbal tea lover. That was real nice of Patti!

I hope the medicine helps Buck's eye. Good luck on your taxes - I hope you get a big return!

(I dread it, but we are preparing for ours as well.)

  39. I have some herbal tea this summer and I actually liked it and I'm not a tea drinker. I keep saying I should do this maybe some time I will.

  40. I'm a coffee drinker who's also got an appreciation for herbal tea. It can be soothing at night, and the flavored varieties are a substitute for dessert. A better substitute! Enjoyed your post.

  41. I have to laugh about the wind comment! lol Whenever I hear people referring to Chicago as 'the windy city', I wonder if they have ever been to Nebraska. It is crazy windy here... and often! :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I like spice tea and a lot of Celestial Seasonings tea, especially with flavored creamer. As to weather, snow is pouring and we're expecting two to a few inches. Fire in the wood stove makes it cozy and it's almost bedtime...yahoo!

  43. How lovely to receive tea in the mail!
Wishing you a most wonderful weekend!

  48. I have only one fact today ... winter WILL end!

    ReplyDelete
  49. What a thoughtful gift! Nice shot.

  50. I've been meaning to try some herbal teas, especially in the evening before bed. I just haven't known which to try.
Now I want to read that Ann Rule book!
Oh, and don't get me started about taxes... never a fun time at my house!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Nope, sorry - no herbal (or any other) tea for me - I'm (happily) addicted to that black stuff (affectionately) known as coffee - high test no less. And as for windy, we used to live just west of Calgary - nothing to stop the wind between our house and the Rockies 40 miles away; anything less than 50 mph was simply called a breeze. Not sure I've ever read the words taxes and enjoyable in the same sentence.

    ;>)

  52. I like hot tea, but I can't stand iced tea...same goes with coffee for me. Ughh...windy is not my thing. My property down south tends to be very windy and it gets on my last nerve.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I have been enjoying your comments on my blog very much! I think I may do a Five Facts Friday this week. It seems like fun! How nice that you got some great Herbal teas...hope you decide you like them. I'm more of a TEA tea person myself, also! :-) So, you live in Nebraska! My brother lives there also, in Auburn! How neat that your sister lives in Mesa! If you ever get to AZ let me know.
