The good in all things.

"HUMOR AND OPENNESS

Learning how to be kind to ourselves is important.

When we look into our own hearts and begin to discover what is confused and what is brilliant, what is bitter and what is sweet, it isn’t just ourselves that we’re discovering.

We’re discovering the universe. When we discover the buddha that we are, we realize that everything and everyone is Buddha.

We discover that everything is awake, and everyone is awake. Everything and everyone is precious and whole and good. When we regard thoughts and emotions with humor and openness, that’s how we perceive the universe." ~ Pima Chodron
: : :

I'm not a Buddhist. I really don't know that much about Buddhism. But I do like these thoughts expressed by Pima Chödrön.

Being good to others and to ourselves. Seeing the value in others and in ourselves. Connecting with and appreciating nature to help us discover the good in all things.

  17. I love your photos of the landscape around you... we don't get to see that much open space around here. I can also feel the cold temps... although that might be because it's 20 degrees outside my door too..lol..

I'm not religious, but you can't go wrong with Buddhist thoughts, atleast its what I've found to be true.

  21. Nancy, one of the hardest things for me, a practicing Christian, is to look and see that Christ died for the meanest, lowliest, nastiest person alive...me. Oh, I want to point and say, "well, that one is engaged in human trafficking" or "that one has murdered people" but, to God, sin is sin is sin and I'm guilty or, at least, was guilty before accepting His son as Savior.
Hmmm, working on taking the beam out of my own eye today -grin-.
    Stay safe and warm!

  26. One of my goals for the year is to be kinder to myself. I am my worst critic and am often too negative in my head. Trying to be nicer to myself and give myself some slack this year :)

  27. Love the shot of the gloves! I'm back after a long break from blogland! What a nice post to come back to.

  30. A photojournalist once gave a disposable camera to a child, a girl in the lowest of castes, in India. He thought what he would be getting from her would be heart-wrenchingly printable photos showing depths of despair from her world...esp. because in her world, she was considered the bottom of the bottom.

when her pictures were developed -

she captured instead all the beauty of her world around her....all of it. In not one photo could you pity her world - it was full of life. and color. and invoked hope.

photographs are important - but not as important as the people behind them.

You have a gift, and you need to accept that, friend!

  31. Nancy, I read Pima sometimes to remind myself of connections and to remember that I am just part of a larger scheme. The work gloves fit so well in this post which is about you and also about the larger world.

  32. Lovely thoughts to share Nancy. I like how you caught the sparkle in the snow, I have been playing with that and the back lighting on ice.

  36. Your photos and this quote are a perfect match. I love the writings of Buddha...my daughter has a Buddha in her room which many think is odd being a Christian..but me...I think it is wonderful to embrace wisdom from things that we have not experienced ourselves. Thanks so much for participating in Cool Clicks.

  40. if you are interested in learning more on this topic - I was reading this to teach this to my kids (Siddhartha is a novel by Hermann Hesse that deals with the spiritual journey of self-discovery of a man named Siddhartha during the time of the Buddha.) or anything else that has the Four Noble Truths (all libraries have these books)

  46. Love how the snow glistens beyond the fence!
I don't think we have to practice a certain faith to appreciate some of the doctrines of those other than our own. This quote was lovely and worth thinking about.

  47. Lovely thoughts to go with those words. The gloves reminded me of hands open of acceptance.
