Barn Charm and Looking Back at 2012.

Finally!

Some new barn photos were taken last weekend while we were out and about, navigating the new snow.  Yes, we got stuck once -- out in the middle of a drifted cornfield -- but thanks to a large corn scoop and my hubby's (sometimes) strong back, we made it out safely.

I'm never worried when I'm with him. He always finds a way.

Although I'm generally not one to talk about the distant past, I have been reflecting recently on my photography and how it has changed over the past year.

Let's take a peek at 2012 on our homestead:

January 2012: seems I was in a Polaroid mood:

February arrived and I was in total texture love (these days, not so much:)

March came in like a lamb and found me down by the pond:

April Showers did not arrive. Actually, 2012 was a drought year and we waited until December to get any measurable precipitation. I began April 2012 with a retro-looking photo of the clothesline:

May Day! May Day! Shall I ever decide what my photography style will be?

June was a quiet month, with simple images from around the homestead:

By July, the boat was ready and I was reminded that getting out of the house
was not such a bad thing after all:

In August, a naked lady came to visit. Isn't she lovely?

On September 1, 2012, I jumped into the abstract:

By October 2012, Shane was back home after working in Vermillion, SD for over a year. We also started our new trapping supply business and things became rather hectic.
Fortunately, I still found time to roam our country roads:

November came and went -- still no rain or snow. Things were getting desperate in the precip department, yet nature continued to be there for me when I needed inspiration:

Life was a blur after Thanksgiving.
No Christmas shopping sprees or elaborate decorations for us -- simple, quiet, slow -- and thankfully, we received our first real snowfall in almost a year.  The best gift we could have asked for:

I hope you have enjoyed this look back at 2012 in photos at A Rural Journal

Wishing you and yours a safe and happy 2013.

  18. Beautiful pictures.
The lack of moisture was crazy. I did a photo journal for 2012. Took one photo everyday for the whole year. And last night the hubs and I looked through them. It was so sad to see how much the pastures changed in a month. Green to burnt. The heat and no rain where a deadly combo!!! We are definitely praying for more moisture in 2013.

  32. A great 'look-back' Nancy! I hope you never find your comfort zone in photography! That could be too confining for your talents I feel. I particularly liked the 'clothespins'! Evokes so many memories for me....good ones of course. Thanks for insights this year and here's to many more in 2013.

  33. Hi Nancy and Happy New Year! Your german shepherds are absolutely beautiful! I thought I would let you know that your link for trapping supplies does not work...at least for me. All the other links seem to work...my husband traps and I wanted to check out what you sold...you never know..we might need something...ha!

  49. I really enjoyed going through your 2012 photo review. Now that's variety! I haven't too willing to experiment...maybe 2013 will be the year...after I learn how to use Lightroom 4. The learning curve is extremely steep! Happy, happy New Year!

  50. Always enjoyable to have a look back over the year in pictures... these are all very beautiful, Nancy, & I love all the textures.

I know what you mean about finding a photography style... I'm learning what I can when I have time to experiment, but there's so many styles out there, will one ever 'land' me? Or, do I have to 'land' it?!
I guess it's ok this way, too, though, because we won't get tired of the same thing over & over... ?
