I'll admit it -- I'm somewhat infatuated with Paris. The city. Not Hilton.
Although it's very likely my going there is not ever going to happen,
I would love to see Paris in the Spring.
Yep, that old cliche.
In any event, the next best thing I find is French design and cuisine.
No, I'm not acting out Julie & Julia in my kitchen on a regular basis, nor am I purchasing vintage French aprons or bake ware on ebay -- I have neither the financial means nor the attention span really to do either.
At this moment in time, I just like French stuff.
So when I spied the Eiffel Tower paper weight at the thrift store, I knew it was an easy way to capture the Esprit Français I was totally looking for.
For $1.00 U.S. Plus tax.
So even if I can't physically fly to France and see the Eiffel Tower, I can at least hold a reasonable facsimile in my hand and imagine, sort of, what it would be like. To go there.
*sigh*
Paris is prolly over-rated anyways.

PS: Apparently, no Texture Tuesday today per Kim Klassen's website -- I must have misread something. Just thought I'd save you a trip.
Also, my computer kept crashing last night and I gave up trying to visit y'all around 6 p.m. and shut 'er down. Old Bessie seems to be working much better this morning. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Hope your Tuesday is a good one.

Lovely shot! And no, Paris isn't overrated...
ReplyDeleteEven if it didn't cost a fortune, the thought of being on a plane that long is enough to deter my dreams.
ReplyDeleteParis ...lovely thought. The mug remind me of a tea set I bought years ago. It has the same raised pattern on the side. I have only used it once. When I made my tea in it, the pattern makes you literally 'dribble'. Not the best idea or very practicle, but very pretty to look at. I was rather disappointed. Sue
ReplyDeleteI went to Paris when I was nine years old and whilst there I saw my first transvestite. That's certainly something to vividly remember Paris for :)
ReplyDeleteI've seen the seedy side of Paris. But I've also been there in April, while it was warm, and it was just fantastic. Go for it!
ReplyDeletem.
I love that you managed to capture a piece of it with that paperweight - it is a very nice one! And I love the photo...very nice, soft and peaceful!
ReplyDeletePretty photo- all muted and soft- like a dream spun in cotton. I hope you get to Paris one day,
ReplyDeleteThis picture is stunning - so very dreamy. Even as a teenager, I did not find Paris over rated. It, as many destinations, is what you make of it; and while not a romantic trip for me (group of teens), it was definitely a memorable one.
ReplyDeleteThis has got to be one of my all time favorites of yours. It is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness it's not Paris as in Hilton...I'd worry about ya!
Keep dreaming, my friend.
What a Day for a Daydream...
ReplyDeleteNow I have that song stuck in my head...
haha you know you are really obsessed with paris hilton :D my ancestors on my fathers side are from france and i've been obsessed with all french-i-ness!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny how a "thing" can bring us such pleasure. Your photography is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI think getting in touch with our "dreams in a day dream" is something I find myself doing. Less expensive too . . .
ReplyDeleteI hope to see Paris one day - I look forward to that! :-)
ReplyDeleteI hear you. I took 8 years of French, most of which has been forgotten by now, but I always hoped I'd make it over there one day.
ReplyDeleteThis girl is dreaming, too. I've been to Paris and would love to go back. I spent two weeks there one May and it rained almost every day. I had the Paris in the spring bug bad and that May lived it out. But Paris in June...the best!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy you got to my place before you put Bessie to bed...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo!
Always good to dream...Love the image!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful dreaming soft image!
ReplyDeleteOh my...what a dream. Hope it comes true for you one day.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, this is just beautiful!
Beautiful photo, lovely meaning...
ReplyDeleteParis would indeed be nice, one day...but it's so far away.
I hope you can go one day. I really hope that for you : ) Your thrift store find is such a steal! : ) I am glad you made the purchase and brought Paris to your house.
ReplyDeleteParis is yet to be in my day dream list.
ReplyDeleteI'll visit Tibet. That should not be a dream.
Paris anytime is a dream and your photo is dreamy too.
ReplyDeleteNice vignette!
ReplyDeleteMy opinion, Paris is over-rated. The sites are nice, the architecture is nice but the city stinks and the people aren't very nice to Americans. But, I am thankful that I have been there, done that and now have no desire to return!
Hang in there... maybe you'll win the lottery one day and can fulfill your dream of going to Paris!
Lovely photo work! I have an Eiffel Tower paperweight just like that...my daughter got it for me when she was studying abroad in college.
ReplyDeleteLovely shot! Such a soft poetic focus!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I have never been to Paris!
Hope you are having a great week Nancy:)
I love the softness of this photo.
ReplyDeleteDon't give it up! If you really want to go, believe that you will, start making plans, even if they're long term. I think everyone should go visit the city of their dreams at some point. And Paris is worth it. Yes, it can be seedy in certain places, and not everyone that goes has the most magical experience (my cousin was incredibly disappointed). But if you keep and open mind, go during a period of nice weather, it can be an incredible experience.
ReplyDeleteSuch a dreamy shot. Love that you found a little piece of Paris to decorate your home.
ReplyDeleteprolly so. :)
ReplyDeleteyou are too cute, nancy. :)
what a lovely, soft image!
ReplyDeletei love it!
xo
I like this photo...hope you get to see Paris someday!
ReplyDeleteWhy not plan that trip to Paris? If not now, WHEN?! Follow your dream! I like the soft shades in your shot and the Eiffel Tower waiting patiently for you to say: "Yes!"
ReplyDeleteI love your image, beautifully done! And.. Paris is do-able! Make it a goal.. even if it's a two or three year goal, and start saving for it now. Why ever not.
ReplyDeleteLovely photo, lovely daydream! Hmm...now I've got that song stuck in my head.
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit of a Francophile. I love Paris. We were lucky enough to live in Belgium for most of my childhood, so I visited often. I love the dreamy photo.
ReplyDeleteThis is just beautiful Nancy, and I can tell you for sure that Paris is definitely not overrated.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful day ahead!
Ah yes. Paris. Sounds great, doesn't it? Love to daydream about it anyway!
ReplyDeleteParis? My friend wants me to come to the Netherlands next year..that's enough for me!...:)JP
ReplyDeleteDon't you just adore a bargain? $1... woo hoo.
ReplyDeleteHas Bessie seen her better days?
Beautiful processing! $1 for a photo prop is quite the bargain. Turned out lovely.
ReplyDeleteMy fantasy is to spend a year in all these great place I'd read about and have never seen yet for the rest of my life.
ReplyDeleteYeah, right!
$$$$$$$$$ :)
I love, love, love this image! It's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteParis, February. One of the best trips anywhere, ever, and filled me up with sweet memories. We stayed in the central area, walked everywhere. The buildings are beautiful, the art is world class, and the people were pleasant. Even less expensive food was good quality. I dream about the coffee and pastries.
I save up miles using a credit card for expenses I'd pay cash for. Miles got me to Paris. I'd go again in a heartbeat.
Whoa, yesterday I was into a new french Etsy shop! My finger was on the buy button for an Eiffel tower glass jar for about 5 minutes...the phone rang and zapped me out of my daze! Sending French Karma your way, and see you there!
ReplyDeleteNancy, this is beautiful! It just looks like a 'daydream'!
ReplyDeleteAlways fun to dream!
ReplyDelete*hugs* ♥ :o)
why do you think you'll never make it there??? Start a separate account and call it your Paris fund. Have money transferred into it form your regular account every month--whatever you can spare. Wait until you have about 1500-2000 in there and start looking at flights! Check kayak for good deals, and travel off season--like march or october, for cheaper deals! I've always traveled, even when I was tight on cash, I made it a priority. You just have to make the decision to go, and GO!!
ReplyDeleteThat photo is an absolute dream! Just keep dreaming you never know what the future may hold.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you Nancy, just one trip would be nice... love your dreamy photo today...
ReplyDeleteLovely image, great post.
ReplyDeleteGreat dreams lead to great photos!
ReplyDeleteParis is lovely but for me half the fun is in the dreaming...Enjoy!
Lovely picture, and Paris IS lovely :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Eva
Scotland, Wales, Ireland, and Great Britain. Dreams are fun, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dream!
ReplyDeleteWe went to Paris about 14 years ago when our girls were quite wee. We went in April and you know it was raining, windy and very cold. We still had fun though. The Eiffel tower was amazing.
ReplyDeleteYour picture is lovely!!!
Girl you have my ATTENTION today. Lovely. sandie
ReplyDeletelovely picture great post...and I agree with you;)
ReplyDeleteI also would love to visit Paris someday. But who know if I will make it. I do live in Las Veags. There is a small replica of the Eiffel Tower right here. Now you got me thinking!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous photo..
Hugs~
Oh this is "Dreamy"!
ReplyDeleteLike you I too have a dream destination only mine is Ireland...wonder how I could capture that like you've done here with this lovely photo.
That photo is divine! Prolly better than Paris ;)
ReplyDeleteNo my dear, Paris is not over-rated! After 10 days in Paris I took a s-l-o-w train from Paris to Nice..stayed in Nice for 10 days then back up to Paris for another 5...the most wonderful experience I've ever had can't wait to do it again. Nancy you must save your pennies YOU and your camera MUST see Paris!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty photo! What a great bargain!

ReplyDelete*sigh* Why can't I find the Paris paperweight for a buck?! Great shot.
ReplyDeleteI love your dreamy picture! :)
ReplyDeleteYou can have Paris though, give me Chaco Canyon or Mesa Verde any day!! LOL!!
I love the picture. I wish I could go to Paris too, but I don't think I will be going anytime soon.
ReplyDeletei love the way you write.
ReplyDeletemy niece is in paris, she is having the time of her life. sorry to burst your bubble....but that vail comment was unforgivable!!
haha, you had that coming...
My best time at the tower was ice skating.
ReplyDeleteJust realized that I didn't leave a comment when I first saw this fabulous post! I guess I was trying to figure out if Kim had opened a link for Texture Tuesdays and I came to your blog first. Anyway...I do love these wonderful scene you've created and photographed, Nancy. I don't care about Paris, really, but I am fascinated with this lovely dream!
ReplyDeleteOOOH! Precious photo, is excellent texture and subtlety, that beautiful. Greetings.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful image & edit, Nancy!
ReplyDeletesmiling here at your first words...the place, not Hilton :-)...I would love to see the place someday...and yes a girl can dream...this photo spells it all...dreaming with you...
ReplyDeleteI was in Paris when I was 16 it was magical and although it is not so far for me to travel life just seems to get in the way! I do however speak French at an informal conversation group twice a month, eat crepes an croissants at home and watch French films! J'adore la France!!
ReplyDeleteI visited Paris and it is everything you imagine. Staying in a small hotel and eating at small cafes, it was surprisingly not that expensive to be there. I would love to go back but think my travel days are behind me...at least for now.
ReplyDeletethis is my dream to, I have never been to Paris and I guess I won't but I dream many times about just living in Paris for some time...
ReplyDeleteLife and travelling
Cooking
this is beautiful... great paper!
ReplyDeleteI live very close to Dover, and about 10 miles from the Channel Tunnel, but I have never been to Paris....one day I will get there but the place I want to go most of all is Venice, and I WILL get there one day :) However I can't complain too much as I had the holiday of a lifetime last year and went to China!! That is one amazing country, I would go back anytime!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful shot! I have a friend who has been to Paris (www.besoterio.blogspot.com) and came back with wonderful photos. Hmmm, can you take a bad photo in Paris....I think not! Someday you will go!
ReplyDeleteNever say never mon amie. Perhaps you'd consider visiting the province I called home for three decades. The province of Québec (New France) where French is the language spoken.

Add it to your 'Bucket List'.
I hope you get to go one day!
ReplyDeleteI want to do Paris as well - but hubbie lived and worked there in his 20's and refuses to go back! I may have to find some girls and just jet right over there!
ReplyDeleteThat's beautiful, wonderful--perfect texture
ReplyDeleteThe texture of your image is very nice. The shallow depth and 'feel' is great.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo! We all can dream and sometimes our dreams are better! We can bring the influence into our homes through decor, gardening and cooking - I have had Julia Child on my mind due to participating in celebrating her upcoming 100th birthday - I do appreciate you sharing with Home and Garden Thursday,
