Weekend Recap.

Kim Klassen Let Go Texture

The weekends have become increasingly busy as the weather warms and being outside is not really so bad.

In fact, it's rather pleasant. Except when the wind blows. Which is like, all the time. We live on a high hill. It happens. Frequently. It becomes a matter of how much you can tolerate.
I say anywhere from 10-25 mpg is tolerable.

: : :

Shane ran down to his brother's house on Saturday morning to pick up some vintage family treasures that would otherwise be tossed in the dumpster if not rescued. The Prince Charming of Dumpster Diving brought back for my perusal:

a strange-looking Victrola (not the RCA Victor kind that usually comes to mind,)
a set of brown Hull oven-proof dinner plates (e-gads,)
a Royal Copley ivy vase (ummm, no,)
an awesome art-deco-ish chalkware lamp featuring a lounging lady (with parts of her leg shattered exposing wire-y tendons which are not-so awesome,)
a set of 60s bar ware drink glasses which I have yet to inspect (Shane's parents liked to party.)

: : :

I received a welcome call from our home-insurance agent (I know, weird,)
letting us know our farm insurance bill will not be doubling as previously indicated,
but he's found a better company offering a plan for less than what we were paying before the increase.

Miracles do happen.

: : :

Helping the hubby bring in the strange-looking Victrola into the house on Saturday,
my sciatica kicked in big time on Sunday.
I was basically confined to house-wifely type duties
for the remainder of the weekend.
I even got out the cane to ambulate.
But I'm better today, as long as I don't aggravate it again.

Which means the cats will be eating my Healthy Choice frozen diet meals until
Shane can bring in another bag of cat food next Friday.

: : :

Sioux's developed some type of blister/lesion on the top of her nose, right above the leathery part.
We are watching it intently, as I am fully aware of the German Shepherd's pre-disposition to

Shane is hopeful it's just a burn/bump that will go away,
but I'm anticipating a vet visit in the very near future.

I'm a mom. We sense these things.

: : :

Finally (you are thinking, oh thank God!)

I did a bit of baking this weekend.

Rhubarb pie, Cinnamon Swirl Bread and Sandwich Bread.

Shane is going back to Vermillion, South Dakota,

fully stocked with goodies from the oven.

How was your weekend?

  1. Really nice texture! Beautiful photo! It sounds like Shane came back with some cool old stuff (maybe?) It's always nice, and rare, when your agent tells you your insurance isn't going up! I hope Sioux doesn't have anything serious.

  6. That was a welcome call for real with a lower insurance rate! Hope it's nothing serious with Sioux- and sorry about your sciatica acting up= that is painful I know!

  7. Beautiful photo and texture!

I'm sure sorry you were forced to break out the cane but it sure doesn't sound like it caused you to slow down at all! Shane is a lucky man.

  8. My back went out this weekend too, AND I did a ton of baking. We're on the same wave length there!

I want pictures of your new treasures.

I don't think my cats would touch Healthy Choice. But one of them does steal the twins' poptarts if they lay them down.

  12. I have a love/hate relationship with Spring weekends - just the right temperature to tackle all those chores I could put off with a clear conscious during the winter, but a reality check that the weeding won't do itself. Sounds like you had a productive weekend as well. Lovely picture, perfect processing.

  16. This cool weather has run me in,too. I resorted to baking, also. You do what you must in desperate times. Being bored is one thing I refuse to be,so I baked. Turned out a really nice scratch cake trying to use up as much in the cupboards as I could.Another goal I've added to my lengthy list.
Good luck on finding a place for all your new found goodies.Hope Sioux is better soon.

  24. hoping your sciatica calms down so you can function (and get the cats some food!) and sure hope your pup will be okay. i know inger in CA deals w/ that nose thing on her shepherd. fingers crossed sioux will be okay.

  25. When my hubby and I married he had a whole set of the Hull dinnerware. I didn't care for it so we sold it at a garage sale. Somebody knew what they're worth and got a great deal on a whole set. He was happy to get them and I was happy they were gone, lol!

My back is KILLING me today. It started yesterday morning (from what, I don't know) but it's much worse today. I guess digging out some more of the new duck pond yesterday didn't help matters, sigh.

Hope your back is feeling better now. I'll be hobbling around all day!

  26. That texture sure makes the photo look great!

I hope you're feeling better, soon. And I hope Sioux's thing on her nose is nothing bad.

I'll bet your kitchen smelled wonderful this weekend. Yummy!

  27. My weekend ended,

    So it belonged to yesterday.

I hope my coming weekend will not end.

  28. Too bad you can't go with Shane to Vermillion. You would probably pass the farmhouse and you could pick me up and we could hang out at Vermillion's winery while he worked all week : ) How's that for a plan?

  29. A lovely shot! Sound like you got a few fun treasures. Thanks for stopping by have a great week, Laura

So happy about your insurance and your neat treasures♥

  31. Mom's do know but I'm hoping it's not an expensive vet visit if it turns that way. I fully wish we could take more of our pet care into our own hands.

Hope your sciatica clears soon. Yucky!

As for me chicks arrived and arrived and arrived...I'm in chick heaven! : )

And, beautiful image, you're flowers are a good month ahead of ours over yonder here.

  33. What a fun post today. Your comments made me laugh out loud.

Sorry to hear about your sciatica. Do you use the Thermacare back wraps? They work wonders and keep the heat on for HOURS. We always keep them in our house because if it's not my back that's aching it's Hubby's.

  34. Beautiful texture on some beautiful flowers. That is great news on your insurance- always welcome news, right?!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Actually, this is the type of post I like to read when I have the time...it is like visiting with a friend and catching up on what they are doing.

  38. Quiet week-end for me, usually is. I hardly bake anymore I have chroic back pain and both knees are gone. Comes from all the years working as a nurse, the lifting got to my body. I constantly battle scaitica nerve problems. So I understand how you feel. Hope you are better now. A lovely post. Love and Hugs!

  39. Sounds like you had a busy buy productive weekend. Your photo looks so pretty. I love seeing how you edit your photos..

    Hugs~

  40. Well, that's a post full of mixed blessings if I ever saw one! Good for the good news, hope all the, uh, challenges abate. And that's a lot of baking with a bad back. I'm impressed! (I also have to admit that dumpster diving is a recreational sport in this household.)

Do you have rhubarb that's ready to pick? Mine's just starting to really poke out leaves. We're s-o-o far behind in the spring department.

  41. My goodness you packed a lot into the weekend. I love the photo. V

    ReplyDelete
  42. those cats will be eating well, hope the back heals

    ReplyDelete
  43. well, goodness Nancy it certainly wasn't as eventful as yours...mine would be boring in comparison but perfect nonetheless....So I bet Shane isn't allowed to go dumpster diving anymore, is he?

    ReplyDelete
  44. My weekend was really boring compared to yours. Hope you and the dog get to feeling better and the cat's don't expect fancy gourmet frozen dinner entrees all the time now. I love that picture! The texture is wonderful.

    ReplyDelete
  45. sorry to hear about your back, pulling weeds did a number on me this weekend. Too bad Shane took all those baked goods with him, I would have brought cat food and joined you for a piece of pie and a cup of coffee.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Absolutely gorgeous photo and use of texture. I hope both you and your dog are going ok healthwise. Did you have to take him to the vet?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ugh, sciatica, not good! My hubby dealt with that for a while. But the rest of the post - very interesting. I love digging through vintage stuff, especially if it belonged to family members long-gone, or near to my heart. Being dog-crazy myself, I'm crossing my fingers for the bump on the dog's nose to be just nothing - keep us posted.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Wow your weekend was "busy"...mine was a little more laid back. A little bit of yard work, a lot of lounging around enjoying the sunshine (took Coleen to the park) and trying out a new church.
Lovely texture and photo. Lilacs are so pretty but oh they do make me sneeze.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Rhubarb pie!!! I love love love it! It was a common summer desert as a kid growing up! I would go into the garden and collect the stalks.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Love the picture, beautiful texture! Here's hoping for the best for the dog and your sciatica and tell those cats not to get tooo used to that fancy food!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Beautiful floral image with just a hint of purple! All those baked goods sound delicious - lucky Shane. Hope your back is better and keeping fingers crossed that your dog's nose id okay.

  52. Yay on the insurance savings! Every penny counts :)
So sorry about Sioux' booboo. Hope it's not a lupus. I worked at rheumatology and lupus is not good :(
