Dusk.

Black Locust Blooms
I was wandering around the yard the other evening about a half-hour before sundown -- sans dogs -- and was blown away at how beautiful everything looked, felt, smelled...

No wind, no bugs, just quiet... with the exception of the familiar sound of an occasional bird off in the distance...

robins, cardinals, goldfinch, wild turkeys, pheasant, Canada geese, to name a few.

I must have taken at least 50 photos of what I saw, but the blossoms of the black locust tree
totally captured the essence of that evening. Have you ever smelled the fragrance? It's really something special. I do wish I could bottle it up and savor it after the petals are long gone. It's that good.

It was as if time had stopped. For me. To go where I pleased. To take it all in. In the still of that evening.

It was about the time I was really getting into myself that Buck decided to escape out the back door to find me. Sioux followed.

I was no longer alone in my thoughts.

Life was barreling towards me like 100-pound German Shepherd.

And that's no metaphor.

I am not familiar with the black locust tree, but my lilac bush has been filling the air with its fragrance. I love that time of the evening when things are still and you just want to bottle the peaceful feelings.
Alas, it's raining this morning and I expect the lilacs will suffer.

  19. It's very pretty there where you live in Nebraska. It's so blah and bland here, but that's this part of Oklahoma. What few trees I have up around the house and buildings are rare, We live on top of rock so not much grows well. Glad you had a quiet peaceful time for awhile. It's rare and so is treasured I'm sure. Love and Hugs!

  33. What a wonderful post! You captured perfect moments. . .including the romp of loving dogs. Love how you combine words and photos.

We once had honey locust trees in California - and I can't recall that they blossomed. Black locust sounds gorgeous.

  34. Love this post, Nancy! There are many locust trees in our town, but the flowers are white. Of course, it's too early for any blooming here, anyway. And your description of the dogs "escaping" is wonderful.

  35. Sounds like a perfect evening, and I just love the shot of the dogs.

  36. What a gorgeous tree! Love all those blooms billowing from it!

I've heard that an hour after sunrise and an hour before sunset are the golden hours for photography. I think mine is actually just as the sun appears or disappears above the tree line. Otherwise, it's too dark. I'll have to play with it some and see.

Isn't it funny what snaps us out of our reverie?! Such cutie pies. All 100 lbs. of them, lo!

I was noticing the locust around here is on the downhill side of their bloom...and I do know the smell you are talking about.

I want to thank you for taking the time to leave me your thoughtful comment, it is much appreciated. I was having a 'bad' day, I know we all have them. My photography skills are very much at a novice level, but I'm working on them. The Black Locust flowers are the prettiest blue.
