I know -- what the heck? Isn't gas like $40.00 a gallon or something now?
I had to go to Omaha to take in our taxes. If it weren't for the threat of incarceration, I would have stayed home. Now we wait for our accountant to call and let us know when they are done. No hurry.
While I was cruising around the big city, I stopped to do some grocery shopping. Nothing major, just needed to pick up a few things. I wanted to by some of those sweeper (not using the brand name) wet cloths -- I have had the mop for a long time now, but haven't refilled the cloths since I bought it.
Which leads me to today's theme -- the Dollar aisle. Does your grocery store have one?
"Oh, the poor dear -- look, she has to shop in the dollar aisle..."
Meh, I get over it pretty quickly.
Especially when the brand cloths cost $5.00 a package and
I found a knock-off brand in the dreaded Dollar aisle for $1.00. So, I bought two.
I also found cooking spray and an odor control gel thingy for the porch.
And, because I saved at least $10.00, I bought myself a Gerbera daisy plant
for $4.99. Was incredibly easy to justify to myself.
Do you shop in the Dollar aisle or at a Dollar store?

Oh, I'm so ready for a Gerbera plant. I just wish I could keep it alive until it's time to plant outside. As for the Dollar Store....we usually go in to find Sudoku books for my husband. I just like to wander the aisles!
ReplyDeleteI agree, just a brand name hikes up the price by so much for no reason!
ReplyDeleteWhen my folks were over the visit we bought a lot of furniture polish at the dollar aisle :)
Well, we don´t have that here as far as I know - but I´m sure I´d try to find bargains if I could. :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't buy in the $1.00 isle... I buy at the $1.00 STORE:)
ReplyDeleteWe dont have a $1.00 aisle, but oh how I wish we did! Your flower photo is GORGEOUS!!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Had to go into town, did ya? :-)
ReplyDeletehappy thursday :)
ReplyDeleteWe have £1 shops in every town now where bargains can be had. The supermarkets have great deals as they compete for your trade so fiercely. :)
ReplyDeleteI do a lot of dollar stores too but it's usually for something crafty or for little gift items at holidays...things like that.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the Dollar Store! So many great bargains! No dollar aisle at any of our stores but oh that Dollar Store ~ yup ~ it gets lots of my business! :)
ReplyDeletexo Catherine
i don't think my kroger has a dollar aisle but i've seen one somewhere....maybe walmart? i shop at dollar gen for cleaning stuff and ours has a market too where i can find a lot of stuff there for way cheaper than even walmart for the kids lunches, etc....i bought those mop refills at dollar general, their brand, for cheap, i won't buy the name brand either! we don't have a dollar store nearby...i wish...loved my dollar tree that was really conveniently close to me when we lived in ga.
ReplyDeleteWell, you know I'm partial to our Dollar Tree. You can find all sorts of treasures!
ReplyDeleteNo dollar aisle, but I grew up with my mom getting random things we didn't care about brand name for at the dollar store! Boston lacks them, so I use coupons and buy generic when I can, also trader joe's is so inexpensive I try to get everything there or in bulk at costco!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Tanya and Lisa, Dollar Tree ROCKS!! I like to shop the dollar store for gift bags especially, they are sooo expensive, even down to the Wal-Mart!
ReplyDeletethank goodness for a wife who enjoys shopping...I dislike it, no matter the prices
ReplyDeleteI have a good male friend who loves to shop and get bargains.... daily. He's the only one (that is male (who likes to shop that is) I do fill in when the Mrs is flat out sick in bed or recoverying from major surgery. And only then.... Unless my truck needs new tires etc. :)
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed you birdy post. Now send a few on North please.
Thanks for the texture tutorial down below! I just added texture to one of my pictures following your directions...cool beans!!
ReplyDeleteAh, the dollar aisle, no our grocery stores don't have that, but we do have dollar stores and discount grocery stores where we shop. When I find something I can use for less (sometimes a lot less) I get that 'Score!' feeling... I try not to shout, it disturbs the other shoppers (wink, wink!)...
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a dollar aisle in our grocery store. Sounds like a great thing to have though, especially in this day and age of $40.00 a gal. gasoline!
ReplyDeleteHmm. I will have to check, but I don't think it does have $1 isle.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness yes I do shop at the dollar store. We don't have a dollar section at our market. But I get a lot of things at the dollar store. Sponges, toilet cleaner, gift wrap, greetings cards, tissue, ribbon....a lot of things!Thank you for linking it to the Thursday Favorite Things blog hop linky party xo
ReplyDeletei have 2 $ stores in town and always find something different when I visit.I like their $.50 cards best, but tend to get a lot of cleaning supplies there.
ReplyDeleteI love the dollar aisle for those off brand items. I've also found some deals at the Dollar Store on sweeper cloths and dusters.
ReplyDeleteDollar stores??? They are the best...love 'em.
ReplyDeleteCards, tissue paper, wrapping paper, tape, gift bags, and that's only the first aisle.
Love your photos around the farm..any taken in the store?
Of course I shop the dollar bins. The treasures to be found can fill a Christmas stocking or Easter basket. They can keep little ones busy on a long car or airplane ride or they can finish off a gift basket for a friend or teacher. I have also found loads of craft supplies in the dollar aisle. I'm not too proud to shop the dollar aisle either!
ReplyDeleteI don't think our small grocery store has one.
ReplyDeleteLove the dollar aisle!!! Are you kidding? Glad you bought the flower too!
ReplyDeletei don't shop at the dollar store, usually, but i do hit dollar general and family dollar a lot since they're the only thing in town (besides the grocery store, really).
ReplyDeleteI shop at the dollar store proudly. Anyone who passes judgement and gives negative looks are not the kind of people I want to find favor with anyway, so I wouldn't let it bother me. I much prefer real, down to earth people who smile regularly and try to do what's best for their families. Great post, Nancy. :)
ReplyDeleteYep...I shop at the "Dollar tree" quite a bit....I get all my greeting cards there...some 2 for a dollar n others one dollar each. That alone is a huge savings when you look at the price of greeting cards...they can be up to $5 or more. We have a big family and B.days in just about every month!!! Also some cleaning products n kitchen utensils!
ReplyDeleteHave frequented the Dollar Tree also..spent too much money there..you don't realize how it adds up. Good place to pick up inexpensive kitchen items..silk flower trees for decorating gifts, etc. Also, always take my nephew there when he visits for the Summer to pick up swimming/pool accessories! Also, BOOKS! Have purchased piles of books at the Dollar Tree! I never felt "cheap" or looked down upon for frequenting Dollar stores, junk stores, or flea markets. I feel proud whenever I make a great purchase for a good deal!
ReplyDeleteSome of the dollar stores around where I live don't seem to be much better with their prices than the big supermarkets :/ Have a lovely day Nancy!
ReplyDeleteWhy would anyone not shop Dollar General, or Dollar Tree. I buy everything I can from them, including canning jars.
ReplyDeleteI love finding bargains...whether it's at the Dollar Tree, in the dollar aisle, Goodwill or where ever. Sometimes, though, I end up with more stuff than I thought I needed, just because it was a bargain. Hmmmm....
ReplyDeleteI shop at the "Dollar" store a lot...why not (I say). Great finds, our grocery stores don't have a "dollar" isle...at least I don't think they do, I don't do the grocery shopping...lol. Great photo and editing.
ReplyDeleteBright blessings,
Kathy
I go crazy in the dollar store. I saw bags of potting soil in one store. My kids are big fans of dollar tree for getting them most out of their birthday money.

ReplyDeleteYesterday, I visited our local dollar store and bought dishwashing detergent, liquid detergent, laundry detergent and other cleaning supplies for just a dollar each...and they weren't little bitty containers either. Thought I'd give them a try after the $1 Awesome carpet cleaner worked so well.
ReplyDeleteI never think of it that, I think hey they just got a bargain!
ReplyDeleteWhat a smart shopper. :)
Wow Nancy I could barely get past the comment about your cheap gas. Canadian gas is about $60 a litre. LOL
ReplyDeleteIt is getting very expensive to live isn't it? B
I would shop in the dollar aisle if my store had one, but yeah. I'd go to Dollar General, Family Dollar, or Dollar Tree - or the thrift shop - to look for bargains.
ReplyDeleteStill, you did great. :)
Oh yes, we share two things. I don't leave the farm until we have to split the last slice of bread and I love the dollar aisle!! I am loving this Thursday Favorite Things Blog Hop Linky Parky!! I am now following you and would love a follow back. Please hop over and check out my blog
ReplyDeleteMy Turn (for us)
http://myturn-evelyn.blogspot.com
Thanks, I enjoyed the visit!
There's always something that my little girl can't live without on the dollar aisle!
ReplyDeleteNancy, Now all I'm wondering is why you need an odor "thingy" for your porch!
ReplyDeletehaha...omg, you crack me up!! i have soooo many stories inside me about the dollar store. i have "discovered" the dollar store since my dads passing, it's THE ONLY STORE my mom shops in and every time we go, we get kicked out!!!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Dollar stores...or isles!! The closest Dollar Store is 2 1/2 hours away. But we do have a section in both the grocery store and the pharmacy store.
ReplyDeleteAnd, yes, I'm sure fuel is $40 bucks (it feels like anyhow). And I'm so spoiled that my husband does the weekly grocery shopping! I get to stay at the ranch!!
Remember when it used to be called "Five and Dime"? Uhhh, me neither.
ReplyDeleteI've always shopped at dollar stores and discount supermarkets. Sadly, we have neither here in Estes Park. But we do have two thrift stores and I shop there. Some people have an aversion to thrift and second hand stores, but I love 'em. We do a lot of BYGO, I check clearance baskets, Times are tough and we do everything we can to keep expenses in line.
ReplyDeleteI love the Dollar Tree everything in the store is $1.....I always check out the store brands and discounts....sometimes the name brand is cheaper...but usually not...Gas prizes are nuts...
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of Dollar Tree, too.
ReplyDelete(no dollar aisles here that I've ever seen)
Buying at Goodwill, thrift stores, dollar stores, consignment clothing stores...
makes sense (cents) to me.
Nancy
ReplyDeleteA Gerbera Daisey is a great way to add some spring to your home!
Yes, I love the Dollar Store! I don't like all their brands, but
it's great for cards, crafts, holiday candies for thr g'kids, etc.
Absolutely I shop at the Dollar Store. We have one not too far from where I live and I am always picking up whatever strikes my fancy. I usually stay away from food, but cleaning stuff, dishes etc. land in my cart without hesitation.
ReplyDeletehah, Nancy, no we don't have a dollar aisle but if I could buy more flowers if we DID, I would go there with no problem at all!
ReplyDeleteHaha. I love your Humor. Our groceries dont but we do have dollar stores. Great places for different things that could be hard to find at time.
ReplyDeleteang gotta love the taxes. There would be enough of us to get you out Im sure had you been taken in.
Oh... a trip to the big city! lol We haven't ventured to Omaha for ages! The Dollar store has all kinds of great finds. I get all sorts of stuff... not really anything like food... but all the other goodies! :)
ReplyDeleteThe dollar aisles/stores are my favorite. Should I be worried? :)
ReplyDeleteGee...I feel cheated...my grocery store doesn't have a dollar isle :(
ReplyDeleteWe do have Dollar stores, though. My favorite things to buy there are gift bags, and party poppers...you pop the top and confetti bursts out...a party in a can :)
I've never seen a dollar aisle here but I sure wish we had them. Dollor stores we have as well as other denominations that I can't recall right now. Love the dollar stores! You never know what you're going to find there. And greeting cards, wrapping paper is a great buy! As long as the product is OK who cares that it's an off-brand. What's important today is saving money! After all, gas will soon be $50 a gallon!
ReplyDeleteI am always in the dollar aisle. Everything else is too expensive.
ReplyDeleteOh Nancy, don't you know the whole point of going to Omaha is to spend money : )
ReplyDeleteWhen we lived in NC, I shopped at the Dollar Store all the time. I tended to buy some things I didn't really need though. LOL "Oh, it's cheap, I'll get that!" :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't noticed one close by me now. I will have to start searching.
Love looking through the Blog Hop Photos!
Interesting Post Nancy. I occasionally shop at the Dollar Store and our local grocery also has a Dollar Isle, I buy $1.00 batteries because they last a fairly decent amount of time in most things (not my camera).
ReplyDeleteI just hate shopping all together. If it costs less, it's better.
ReplyDeleteha! you must've sent me some telepathic message! then i go and name the stupid thing...
