Red Zinnia.

Zinnias are becoming one of my favorite fall flowers. Why?

Zinnias
  • self-seed year after year.
  • bloom profusely from mid-summer to late fall.
  • require little to no care.
  • are butterfly magnets.
  • produce flowers in a variety of amazing shapes, sizes and colors.

Here is how I arrived at the above photo:

In Pixlr:

Dandelion Fuzz @ 100% Multiply
Aborigine @ 54% Overlay
Gray Metal Flake @ 64% Overlay

The Gray Metal Flake "texture" is my own -- it's just a large-size photograph of a piece of flaking metal sheet I found laying around the farm. Nothing fancy, but I like the effect it produced.

Feel free to download it and use it for your own digital projects. A link back to my Flickr photo page would be appreciated.

@Gone Country: You can try them in partial shade, although they do best in full sun.

This one is extra vibrant!

I had to LOL over the chick under the turkey. That must be surprising to find!

It's quite a compliment, but no homeschooling for me unless there's a HUGE fail by the public schools as we go along. I just don't think I'd be very good at it.

Just beautiful Nancy and I also adore Zinnias! I have some giant purple ones that came up this year and I am going to save the seeds to spread around next year!
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog yesterday and leaving such a sweet comment about my little Eiffel towers it meant a lot to me!
Have a very happy weekend....

You are so talented with your photography. I was at a store today holding those beautiful Nikons and Cannons in my hands, aiming, shooting, zooming in and out, and then putting them down. I was thinking of your lovely photographs, Nancy, and this one is breathtaking!

Beautiful work. The background is special indeed, I wonder how the original photo looked like.

Zinnias are very rewarding with their long blooming period.
